Heaven Can Wait, the appropriately named B17 Flying Fortress of the 100th Bomb Group, limps back to its base at Thorpe Abbots on Monday 11th September, 1944. Terribly mauled by fighters of JG4 during an epic aerial battle over the Czech/German border, which saw the loss of 45 heavy bombers, this B17 made it home on two engines, surviving to fight another day.
